19 Mar- Last pregnancy checkup

19 Mar 2012, 9.25am:

It was the next checkup appointment with Dr Yu and it turned out to be the last pregnancy checkup.

I was losing weight instead of gaining weight. This is probably due to the the 2 little fruit parasites are blocking my stomach, and causing more heartburn. So Dr Yu asked if i was ready to deliver them, I answered with a big confirmed "Yes" and then she signed the paper for me to be induce at the maternity ward: Ward 53A at SGH.

As the bed is not ready yet, the nurse advised us to go for our lunch. I ordered yong dou fu, but then most of it was finished up by Ah Dear. Cos I can't eat much. After lunch, I went back to wait for the bed and I told Ah Dear to go back and change fr his office attire to casual wear and bring the maternity bag to the hospital again. Luckily we stayed near SGH, coming back and fro was easy!

By 3pm, I got my bed, Room 10 and Bed 1. They inserted a medicine thru the vaginal to induce the pregnancy. So I waited for the contraction fr 3pm to 3am the next morning, 20 Mar 2012. Before 3am, I can still be smiling and enjoying my 1st SGH meal.

At about 5am, Ah Dear has arrived back to the hospital(cos I was staying in B1 ward, husband is not allowed to stay over). And together, we are being pushed down to the Labour award at level 2.

20 Mar 2012, 6am

Another doctor came and checked on my dilation and realised that i did not dilate 3cm at all, the MO of the ward has made a mistake. Dr Yu came in the morning and see me, and decided to insert 1 more dosage of the induce medicine.

At 9am, another lady doctor came and was going to do the insertion of the induce medicine, she realise i have already dilated to 3cm. Hence the induce medicine is no longer required. Next I decided to go for the epidural to ease the contraction pain, the discomfort of being strapped with 2 fetal monitors, and JoyJoy continue to kick in the womb cos she is uncomfortable inside too!

When inserting the epi, the doctor applied some cold spray, and I had a jump. And the doctor said i must not do that when she is doing the epi. I was so scared that I was praying to God, pls don't let me move, esp JoyJoy like to kick in the womb! I don't want to be paralyse!

After the epi, it was numbness immediately. And I felt so much better! So fr 10am to 2pm, I and Ah dear were having a peaceful sleep and the nurses were nice to dim the lights for us. Ah dear will be able to tell you the differencce of a woman with/without epi during labour! Haha!

As usual, due to my gastic problem, I started to vomit again, including drinking water. So by 4pm, I was really tired already, esp i have no intake of food. The only food that stayed in my stomach was the dinner on 19 Mar 2012. And by then I was only dilated to 4cm only. So Dr Yu instructed the nurses to administer another drip on my right hand to let me dilate faster!

The midwife, Zaiton was always there for me! She told me when I have the "pang sai" feeling, let her know. I did has the "pang sai" feeling, but then i was like must i release the "sai" or hold back the "sai". It was only then i realise that's the true labour contraction! And the midwife will make a few checks if I dilate to 10cm, after which they call Dr Yu to come over.

Zaiton taught me how to push, to hold the breath and push, and breath and push. When I change my breath, it was a short one, hence the baby head keep heading back to the womb. I guess I shouted pain, and one of this ka-po or kuku nurse can ask me "where pain". I was so pissed that I told her everywhere pain la, basket! And i avoided her and just concentrated on what Zaiton, the midwife instructions! And there's another pretty nice malay nurse was the one that taught me the right technique of pushing and breathing. I can still joke with Zaiton that this is better than exercising in gym! I can sweat in air con room! And I even threw away the operation towel that were placed on my feet, cos it's too hot! And Dr Yu, who is quite strict went to take another 2 pcs wanting to cover my legs, and asked the nurses why they did not put the towels. I can still defend the nurses by telling Dr Yu I'm the one that threw away the towels cos i'm too hot! haha.

What's next, getting the right technique, I managed to push out John first. And by then I was very sleepy and tired and nearly dozed off. But Dr Yu's hand is still inside my womb, trying to catch JoyJoy. Dr Yu was asking the nurse to check for JoyJoy heartbeat and 2 midwifes were pressing on my tummy really hard so JoyJoy will not roll back to the womb. Bt then I really have no energy...and they kept asking me to push, but with little energy. I guess Dr Yu was starting to get worried cos it will end up with emergency c-section then. Then I told God, pls give me energy and strength for the last push. And somehow I can only heard my Ah dear's voice: "last lap, last lap.." and Zaiton's voice " May Lian, last, push push!!!" ....And Praise the Lord, one last push and JoyJoy was out. After that, I was exhausted but i did hear the nurse trying to rescue JoyJoy, cos she was blue when she is delivered.

Ah dear turned my face, cos he does not want me to worry. And Zaiton came with John to have the skin to skin contact. After some time, they managed to get JoyJoy back and Praise the Lord again for keeping the 2 babies safe. And they put JoyJoy on me for a few seconds for the skin to skin, and just 1 pic capture. They carried both babies and rushed to the HD ward cos JoyJoy heartbeat was abit faster.

Next I was sewed up by Dr Yu and one nurse asked me the pain level. I told her a high no, and she asked if I wanted the laughing gas. After the labour pain, I can tell you, the sewing pain is nothing. So I told her i don't want. But I asked Ah Dear to clean my face with cold towel, cos i was still feeling hot and to give me water!

Luckily I have Dr Yu, who is very experienced! Else I guess I will have to go thru another round of c-section and I will be dead! Thank God for Dr Yu and some of the nice midwifes! After Dr Yu left, it's cleaning up time. They massage my tummy to prevent blood cots and after the cleanup, they pushed me up to the ward.

In summary, with the divine help fr God, the 2 little ones are delivered safely!
