Joy was hospitalized - Day 1

21 Jul 2015, 8.30pm onwards

Joy has been down with a fever and cough since 13th Jul. Her fever subsided and returned for the last 9 days. And both Ah dear and I decided to bring her down to the GP to do a blood test, just to confirm she is just down with viral fever. Dr Sabrina realized Joy's chest was congested as well as sounding breathless. The doctor suspected Joy has pneumonia and wrote us a memo before sending us to the KKH. So we quickly bathed and took a cab down.

At KKH, due to the memo we were given the priority to head down to the observation deck. And quickly, a doctor came to us and start to ask questions about Joy's condition. For a moment, I was so glad that I'm a Singaporean and we have such a good hospital in place for kids! I believe any mummy will be able to identify with me, being anxious esp when her own kid is breathless and running a fever of 40 degree! The doctor asked if Joy complained of tummy pain, then i told him "yes, the last 2 nights" Then he explained it's probably her lungs and not her tummy. And he immediately ordered ibufen for Joy before sending us to take X-ray. And the X-ray results showed that Joy's lungs were infected with bacteria and sent us to admit her to the hospital.

The next thing we knew was we are in Ward 66, and a attentive nurse by the name of Yeo Wei Ting arranged a side window bed for us. Probably this is the first time Joy was in the hospital, she was quite scared, as the other kid on the next bed was picking a fuss over medication.

The MO and other doctors came to examined her before concluding to give her antibotics via a IV line. To insert a IV line, the nurse asked me to bring Joy into a small room, before sending me out. And next thing i know is Joy was screaming out of her lungs, cos the nurses had to pit her down to put the line. So i have to pretend to beat the nurses when i carried her out of the room.

The Nurse Yeo was quite nice, and kept coming over to Joy's bed to check her breathing. As her breathing fall below the average point of 95, the nurse tried to put a small oxygen mask over her. But Joy refused. And i have to pat her to sleep, as she kept waking up just to ensure the nurse is not around her.

By 4am, both Joy and I were exhausted and we just knocked out. And i vaguely saw the Nurse Yeo came to Joy and check on her oxygen level. And the next thing i know, it's 7.30am!

After a long day, she is asleep!
